Leave Outside Porch/Garage Lights ON
With the days getting shorter, your board of directors and the neighborhood watch want to stress the importance of leaving your outside porch and garage lights on all night. The cost is minimal and the reduction in crime of well lighted neighborhoods is well documented. Considering that our neighborhood does not have yard lamp posts, it is even more important for people to keep the exterior of their homes well lit. If you would like additional information, check out the Home Security Book "Preventing Burglaries--How to Protect Your Home" in the Library section at the bottom of this page.

Robbery Reported February 6, 2008
Sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. yesterday a home on Roseglen in Brookdale Meadows was broken into and robbed. No one was home at the time and it was discovered when the residents came home from work. The police were called and they are investigating. If anyone noticed anything unusual, please call the police department at 377-6790. Also, within last day or so, another house south of The Legends in Heather Glen Subdivision reported a residential burglary. This is a good time to remind everyone to lock their doors and look around the neighborhood and if you see anything unusual or suspicious to report it to the police.

Suspicious Circumstances
Yesterday, Mon Jan 22, a female juvenile reported to police that a man was in his vehicle parked in a ditch in the Legends subdivision and watching children in the area. The female (young teen) was walking past and believed the man got out of his vehicle to follow her on the path from Legends to Hobble Creek. Suspect's vehicle is a white pickup w/red stripes. No license plate - I don't know if the plate # was not seen or there was simply no license plate. Suspect is described as a white male adult, 60 - 65 yrs old with a gray beard and mustache. He wore sunglasses, ball cap, red jacket and jeans. Kudos to the female for being observant and reporting this suspicious activity to dispatch! If you see the above vehicle, please call dispatch at 377-6790.

Update - 01.24.07 - Thanks in part to our Neighborhood Watch system and the vigilant care of our friends and neighbors, we have identified the person in the pickup truck.  While the police did not release his name, they did say that he is NOT listed as a registered sex offender. Other neighbors have also reported seeing his truck parked on Pala Mesa and on Blue Ash. The same suspicious suspect was also seen driving in the Legends in a Black 1993 Ford pick up. A Boise Police Lieutenant and a Boise Police Officer have been involved and are responding. All police officers have been notified as well as the Lowell Scott JHS Resource Officer. The police are trying to locate the man to ascertain why he is in our subdivision. Please be advised, if/when anyone sees either truck again, call 377-6790 or 911 if necessary. Vehicle Descriptions: Older model red and white Ford F250 pickup, License # 2C V3413 Black, 1993 Ford pickup, License # 1A RK013. Thank you to everyone's diligence in helping to keep our neighborhood safe!

Updated - 01.24.07 -
I received a call from Boise Police Officer Shem Riley regarding the suspicious trucks and their unusual presence in The Legends. There are actually two men driving different trucks owned by a man operating a Private Investigating company. One of the men is the owner of the PI company and other is an employee.  They are a legitimate company working a case in our neighborhood. Kudos to everyone helping to clear up this unsettling sequence of events. There is no need to call the police if anyone sees these two pickups again. However, this serves as an excellent reminder to say aware of our surroundings and watch out for each other. While not the best outcome for the PI company, this clearly demonstrates the success of our Neighborhood Watch Program. If you have additional questions, feel free to give me a call at 388-4200, Charlene Miller, Boise Police Director of Neighborhood Watch at 577-3851 or Officer Riley at 353-1688.

Magazine Door-To-Door Scam In Full Force This Year
"The magazine door-to-door salesmen are out in force in Boise once again. These salesmen say they are from San Diego, in their 20's, bold, and will usually try to get into your home. We find as these types of salespeople go through our city, they leave a wake of crime in their path. Please be wary of all door-to-door salespeople. If you didn't need it before, you probably don't need it when they come to your home.

You don't need to open your door to anyone you don't know or are not expecting. Use your wide-angle peephole or a window to see who is ringing your doorbell before you open that door. If you open your door to them, ask immediately for a Boise City license. Each sales person must be licensed by the city to sell products. If they don't have a city license, call police dispatch 377-6790, and give the dispatcher your location, the description of the sales people, any vehicle you see them with, and that the person(s) are unlicensed.

Citizens can Tell Traffic Concerns to Police Online
Boise Police have launched a new way for citizens to communicate their neighborhood traffic concerns - go online. The new online traffic concern reporting system will send the citizens report directly to the BPD Patrol office, where it will be sent directly to officers who patrol that area. The online system will also kick back a copy of the report to the citizen for them to document the report. It's easy to log onto the system, just go to www.boisepolice.org and click on the Report Traffic Concerns icon. The report then takes citizens through steps where they communicate a general traffic concern or be specific very specific about times, locations, even vehicles involved. The system was launched last night, in part, as a response to neighborhood survey done by the department where many citizens reported traffic issues were their biggest concern. Officers will use the reports either to increase enforcement, or to explore other possible solutions with neighborhood leaders, like traffic calming measures. The online traffic reporting is the first of several reports citizens will soon be able to make online.

A vacant house—or one that appears to be vacant—is an appealing target to a burglar. This is true during the work day when everyone may be at work or school, or duing a vacation, a weekend away from home, or a business trip. This list helps you prepare your home for an upcoming vacation. Never give a burglar an even break.
